Howdy anybody who reads my blog! I figured I should post something now, I could easily let this unseen column slip away into the abyss but then I’d regret it later. It’s good to take notes on life; if you don’t record the milestones and your thoughts, what’s the point?
So much has happened since I last blogged I hardly know where to begin. After I made the post on planetary resources, my full time commitment became finding myself work. Applying to jobs, answering phone calls, meeting with agencies, going to interviews. It was a hassle, and an unnecessary one. The job I wanted in the first place ended up taking me in at the end, I could have spent all that extra time playing Diablo. But it’s best practice to have options, I’m no dummy. In any case, I’ve also been working on a few side projects as far as websites go. I’ll reveal more in all due time. Let’s just say I’ve been teaching myself as much LAMP as I can.
Shift of topic, before starting employment I gave myself a window of time in which I could take a vacation… No, a journey! I haven’t had a real adventure since Mackenzie and I went to Kauai in 2009. I have just been itching to hit the trail. Now I had a complete lack of funds but a strong consumer desire, so I did what anybody else would do, CREDIT! Well sort of, I bought stuff with paypal’s BillMeLater which means I have up to 6 months to pay off with no interest if paid in full. DONE! I had found an REI half dome tent used for $80, but I needed a good sleeping bag. I found the Marmot Pinnacle Sleeping Bag while it was on sale for nearly 40% off. I bought a left and right sided zipper for snuggling Mackenzie. I also picked up a Katadyn Hiker Pro Water Filter, probably the best purchase I could have made. It was $15 off so I can’t complain, it turned a potentially dangerous situation into a trip of luxury. If there’s two backpacking items to NOT skimp on, they would be a well rated sleeping bag and a water filter. Everything else can be used, cheap, whatever. Protection from exposure and dehydration are the most critical steps in safe adventuring!
What did I intend to do with said backpacking gear? Well, I’ll cover that in my next post (very soon!); I journeyed to Colorado to hike the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Wilderness. I’ll attempt to transcribe my trail journal into blog format with matching pictures so that the chronology comes out nice. It really deserves it’s own post without distraction, it’s a story unto itself.
In any case, before I left I enjoyed a few salads fresh out of the garden! That spinach I planted is one hell of a producer! Four meals for two people so far, and just four plants! There’s probably about 3 or 4 more meals to get out of that plant. Plus it’s now supplemented with the kale and lettuce I planted. I even have some delicious parsley! But yeah, killer salad with avocado and chips strewn on top! My final meal before departing to Colorado was homegrown salad with crispy spiced chicken wings! Enjoy!
